It’s been 8 weeks since I had surgery for my broken ankle, which ended in my getting a plate and 7 screws put in. 3 weeks in a bright pink hard cast after surgery, and then a walking boot for 4 weeks until I got that off last week. I’ve realized that I was pretty naive when the break happened to think that I’d be climbing again in a couple of months time no problem. Hell, I even figured I’d be able to hobble my way out to the Purple Stones and do some easy one legged climbing down there while I was in the boot, but that didn’t exactly happen. I’m out of the walking boot now and I’m walking around with a limp and a nice fat cankle, which the doctors and physical therapists say won’t go down for a good while. The goal now is to make the most out of the end of Winter conditions next year after a few solid months of beer fueled, one-legged training sessions. It could be worse. A lot worse.
Anyway, thanks to the generous help of Shaun and Jorge, the homewall finally went up a few weeks ago while I was still in the walking boot and I’ve been aching to put some real time on it. In celebration of finally getting out of the walking book last week, I had a solid crew over to the Scientia compound this past weekend for some BBQ and homewall action. I think it’s safe to say everyone had a great time. I somehow managed to shoot only blurry photos, but luckily Chris came through in the end to snag some great shorts shots. Will definitely be doing this again! Enjoy the photodump. All photos by Chris Chen.
